#1 St. Croix Valley Fusion 6 - #2 Hayward Spooner 3
Fusion advances to Madison and will play defending State Champions, Central Wisconsin Storm (Wausau-Mosinee-Everest) Friday in the Semi Final. If they win, they would play Saturday, March 7 at 12:00 PM for the State Championship. The games will be held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The Storm defeated the Eau Claire Stars 3-2 last night in an exciting Section final.
The Fusion took off in the first period building a 4-1 lead before finding themselves in a battle for their lives in the second period with a spirited and talented Hayward team. Junior, Lily Cranston, started the scoring for the Fusion at 2:23 of the first, assisted by Karlyn Sturdevant, before Hayward evened the mark at 9:38 of the first on a goal from Kelly Ahlgren, assisted by Hannah Turnbull. The Fusion's Senior, Karlyn Sturdevant, showed her leadership in a big way... scoring three goals in the first period to help the Fusion to a 4-1 lead. Sturdevant's first goal was notched at 10:11 of the 1st with an assist from Lily Cranston and Heidi VanDell, again at 11:16 from Alice Cranston, and yet again at 12:09 from Lily Cranston to complete a Pure Hat Trick.
The second Period went to Hayward on a goal 19 seconds into the second period by Kelly Ahlgren from Samone Skweres and Amanda Snyder, and at 14:11 of the 2nd by Kelly Ahlgren from Allyssa Ahlgren. The second period ended 4-3 and it was "game on," the arena was filled with excitement.
The 3rd Period came back to the Fusion. At 6:50 of the 3rd period Lily Cranston found the back of the net for her second goal of the game, assisted by Tori Klingler who took a nice shot from the point that was tipped by Cranston. At 12:54, Heidi VanDell fired in a power play goal assisted by Tori Klingler to make it 6-3 to complete the scoring for the Fusion and the game.
